Whole Wheat Bread – A Healthy Choice for My Husband’s Diet
Whole wheat bread is made from flour that retains the bran and germ, unlike refined white flour. It’s one of the oldest grain-based breads known to humanity and is packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals—making it a great choice for digestive health and blood sugar control. These days, it’s a popular alternative to white bread in wellness and diet-focused meals.
Hello there~
Today, I’d love to share my story of baking whole wheat bread to support my husband’s diet.
Giving up bread completely is tough, so I tried making a 100% whole wheat bread to help him make a healthier choice 😊
🧂 Let’s Start with the Ingredients
This time, I followed CasaYoon’s recipe with a few tweaks of my own.
- Whole wheat flour: 400g
- Dry yeast: 5g
- Salt: 8g
- Honey: 15g
- Skim milk powder: 25g
- Butter: 35g
- Water: 300mL
Mix everything except the butter until it just comes together.
Then let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
🌀 Kneading with the L’equip Mixer
After 30 minutes, it’s time to knead.
I used the L’equip mixer’s auto mode—super convenient with its speed and time settings.
Once the dough forms, add 35g of butter and knead again.
Even though it’s 100% whole wheat, the dough felt soft and elastic, not rough at all.
I had a good feeling about how this bread would turn out.
⏱️ First Proof & Dividing the Dough
Once kneaded, shape the dough and let it proof at room temperature for 1 hour.
After an hour, divide the dough into three equal parts.
I usually use a scale, but… mine broke 😅 so I eyeballed it.
Since the dough pieces were large, I pre-shaped them and rounded them.
🍞 Shaping – Rolling & Folding
Now roll out each piece with a rolling pin.
Flip it so the smooth side faces out,
fold into thirds, then roll again.
Finally, roll it up tightly and pinch the seam to seal.
Place them in the tray and let them proof for another hour.
🔥 Baking – That Nutty Aroma!
Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes.
I was so excited to see how they turned out.
They looked beautiful, and
the aroma of freshly baked bread filled the house.
I know I should’ve waited for it to cool before slicing, but…
I couldn’t resist checking the inside!
Steam was rising,
and the crumb looked great—soft and moist.
🍽️ Perfect for Breakfast or a Snack
This whole wheat bread is as soft as regular white bread,
but with the nutty flavor of whole wheat.
It’s perfect for breakfast or as a snack.
And best of all, it’s made at home with no preservatives and wholesome ingredients.
💛 Wrapping Up
I made this bread with love to support my husband’s diet.
For someone who loves bread,
choosing a healthier option together feels more realistic than cutting it out completely.
That’s it for today’s post.
Thanks for reading 💛
